reading yanis varoufakis talk about technofeudalism really messed with my head now that i’m pregnant. he says we’re not even living in capitalism anymore, we’re in a new feudal system where amazon, google, meta and them own the digital “cloud” and the rest of us are basically serfs paying rent just to exist online. everything is owned, everything is controlled, and freedom feels like it’s slipping away

– as a soon-to-be mom this scares me more than anything. i don’t want our little girl growing up in a world where a handful of billionaires own her attention, her data, her choices, and her future before she even gets a chance to be free. i don’t want her learning that her worth is in likes, algorithms, and endless consumption

– me and my husband have always talked about living anarchistically, rejecting the system as much as we can, but now with a baby on the way it feels more urgent. we want to raise her to think for herself, to question power, to value real connection over screens, and to understand that her body, her mind, and her life are hers alone

– technofeudalism wants to turn all of us into renters and users, but i refuse to let that happen to my daughter. i want her to know what real freedom feels like — dirty hands from gardening, real conversations, adventures outside, and parents who choose each other every day instead of just going through the motions

– having a baby makes you see the future clearer. i’m scared of the world she’s coming into but i’m also more determined than ever to fight for something better with my husband by my side. we might not be able to burn the whole system down, but we can build a little pocket of resistance right here in our home and in how we raise her
