Why this title?

• Because every chapter starts and ends with the same two people: me and my captain.

• Because I learned freedom on the back of a Harley before I ever read Bakunin.

• Because I chose a collar before I ever chose a wedding ring.

• Because I said “fuck your rules” at 22 and never looked back.

• Because the only authority I answer to is the man who kisses my forehead after he wrecks me.

• Because every sunrise we’ve watched, every manifesto we’ve written, every time he’s filled me hoping for a baby, has been the same rebellion: love without permission, life without cages.

Alternate subtitles we almost used:

• “Collar On, Throttle Open”

• “How to Burn the World Down and Still Make Pancakes”

• “From Trailer Park to Lanai: A Brat’s Guide to Anarchy”

• “Yes Daddy, No Government”

Whatever they print on the cover, the last line of the book is already written:

She never asked for permission.

She just took his hand and rode.
